Judo BC has a New Coach – Kouga Kagei!
Judo BC is excited to welcome Kouga Kagei, 4th dan, as our new Sport Development Coordinator and Assistant Provincial Coach.
Kouga is a highly accomplished judoka with top national results, including Top 5 finishes at the All Japan Championships (2018, -90kg) and the Japanese National University Athletic Championships (2021, -90kg). He completed his Bachelor of Sport and Health Science at the Juntendo University in Japan, where he was also a key member of the Judo Team.
Alongside his athletic career, Kouga has built valuable coaching experience, serving as an Assistant Coach with both the Shidokan Judo Team and the Juntendo University Judo Team. Most recently, he spent three months coaching at the Honolulu Judo Club in Hawaii, further broadening his international perspective.
Guided by his coaching philosophy, Kouga provides instruction that not only builds technical excellence but also encourages athletes to think independently, develop initiative, and grow as individuals. He is committed to supporting athletes in their competitive journey while helping them thrive as people.
Passionate about developing judo in British Columbia and across Canada, Kouga shares: “Let’s do our best together in BC and Canada!”
Outside of judo, Kouga enjoys fishing, reading, and working out.
