It has been quite a while since we’ve all gathered and these 3 days were enjoyed by all.

JULY
- Brazil: Judo BC sent a team of 1 coach and 7 athletes to Belo Horizonte, Brazil where they were joined with a Quebec team, to spend 2 weeks training and competing at a tournament and camp.
- Switzerland: Judo BC joined with Alberta to create Team Canada West, consisting of 2 coaches and 9 athletes. They spent 2 weeks at the Sergei Aschwanden Judo Came that had over 450 athletes, 50 coaches and 40 countries in attendance at a sport centre that has 1200 square meters of tatami! This was part of the preparations for the Cadet World Championships.
- Italy Coach 2.0: Judo BC coaches were in San Marino, Italy, attending a week-long coaches’ training camp at the Darcel Yandzi Judo Centre. The first session was led by Guy Delvingt, 8th dan — a French sensei renowned for his expertise in newaza and judo fundamentals.
AUGUST
- NCCP DA/DI Course in Prince George: Donna Hanson (Vernon Judo Club) and Ashley Nobeashi (Kizuna Judo Club) facilitated the NCCP DA/DI course to a class of over a dozen participants. It was a great weekend of learning in the North.
- Girls Camp, Rise & Thrive: Over 50 judokas and instructors gathered at Loon Lake in Maple Ridge for 3 days of activities, outdoors, and judo. It’s was our 2nd year at this location and we’re already looking forward to next year.
- Matsuru HP Camp: Judokas from all over BC came to the UBC War Memorial Gym for 3 days of judo and included a morning of fitness testing for all potential Team BC athletes. It was a great way to start the season and we look forward to 2025-26 season with all Team BC athletes and coaches, new and returning.
- Next Gen Camp: Unfortunately due to the airline disruption, our team of athletes were unable to attend the Next Gen Camp in Montreal. But lucky for 2 of our Judo BC athletes: Jordan Bedard (Peak Judo Club) and Kai Suda (Kizuna Judo Club), they were able to avoid the disruption and make their way to Montreal to attend.
- Cadet World Championships, August 27-31: Our Judo BC Head Coach Jeremy Le Bris will be part of Team Canada’s coaching team at the Cadet World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, August 27-31. 3 Judo BC athletes will be representing Canada: Maegan Grooten -52kg (Hart Judo Academy), Amir Temirbaev -60kg (Peak Judo Club), Lowan Le Bris -73kg (Peak Judo Club).
It’s been a busy summer and there’s much more judo to come! We look forward to the 2025-26 season!
