Carla competed on October 5th in the -57kg category. Coming into the event, she was ranked 9th in the world. She opened with two wins — against Peru and Switzerland — both by ippon. These victories advanced her to the quarterfinals against Brazil, where she suffered her first loss.
That defeat moved her into the repechage round, where she faced Slovenia. After a hard-fought four minutes of regulation time, the match went into golden score with no points on the board but with two shidos for Carla, and one shido for Slovenia. Unfortunately, Carla was caught by a quick attack off the grip from Slovenia and she experienced her second loss.
This was Carla’s first year competing as a Junior, and her performance earned her an impressive 7th-place finish.
