National Coach’s Certification Program Update – Making the Transition From Old to New

In response to an overwhelming number of inquiries regarding coaching certification equivalency, Judo BC has developed an education campaign which aims to reach out to BC coaches to ensure accurate information is being disseminated regarding the transition from the old to the new NCCP certification program.

As a requirement of our provincial funding partners, all coaches of youth or children will be required to have a minimum of Competition Introduction “Trained” status which translated to Dojo Instructor “Trained” in judo terms (or the old level 2 NCCP certified), by 2014-2015. Following, those same coaches will be required to be fully certified by 2016-2017. As several of our coaches have completed full or partial certification under the old NCCP system, we have developed documentation to help you identify the steps needed to receive recognition for courses and / or certification completed under the “old” program. The enclosed document contains various scenarios, each representing stages of certification under the old program and come with a specific path a coach must take to achieve the “Certified” status of Dojo Assistant (Introduction Beginner) or Dojo Instructor (Competition Introduction).

Transition From Old to New – A pictorial of the transition plan developed by Judo Canada to assist in determining how best to transfer certification completed under the old program.

Making the Transition – An outline of the new professional development requirement as well as additional information to assist you in transferring your previous certification.

We hope this information assist you in making the transition. Do not hesitate to contact the NCCP Chair if you have any questions.
