Important Notice from the IJF – Cross Grip

July 4, 2012 by Admin | posted in Judo BC News

IMPORTANT
Subject: CROSS GRIP

Dear Judo friends,

In order to avoid any misinterpretation regarding the cross grip and leg grabbing, we would like to stress that there have not been any changes made to be applied during the Olympic Games in London 2012.

“As long as a contestant makes a cross grip, that means with a grip with two hands, one hand on the opposite side of the back, shoulder or arm of the other contestant, he should attack immediately or the referee must penalize with SHIDO. In this situation is permitted for the other contestant to grab the legs of his opponent
without any penalty”

After the draw at the Olympics, the IJF Refereeing Commission will be at your entire disposal to answer your questions or remarks.

Best regards,
International Judo Federation

Note: This rule will be in effect in Canada immediately following the conclusion of the 2012 Canadian Championships.
